Modem says I have no phone service

After a lightning strike fried my modem and home phone I have purchased new ones. The modem is aTP-link with a phone port from TPG. The internet is working very well. The phone is from Uniden with a base and an extra hand set for upstairs.

I get a dial tone and hear the number tones but then just hear a long loud tone. Sometimes it's a broken tone of about 3 seconds. Calls to the phone are told to call back later or advise the number has been disconnected.

TPG engineers text that the service is running within specification but they do not answer my reply texts.

The Modem control panel says there is no phone service but the wired clients include the phone, with the number, IP and MAC addresses.

I checked with Chat GPT. It says I need the setting from TPG but I can't see where to put them in. It's a half hour wait on TPG support line. This community site seems the next best approach. Please help.

Problem fixed. Suddenly the phone light appeared on the modem; then we got messages that it was fixed. There had been no indication that anything needed fixing from their side, the line was working within specification sposedly. Even knowing a time line was involved would have been something. Anyway it fix and working so that's good.
