Hi Riezl, Thank's for your latest reply. I have looked further into this problem, including the article “Your Home Phone Optional Prepaid Balance” that you suggested. I note that article includes the statement, “If you are an existing NBN customer who either signed up, upgraded or downgraded the NBN plan or completed a relocation of service prior to 22 October 2020, you will remain on the existing $20 Home Phone Prepayment.” I signed up in January 2020, so that should apply to my account. According to the account record up to March 2021 I had used $10.30 for calls (13/1300 numbers & directory assistance) excluded from the plan and thus drawn from the prepaid balance. In March 2021, without explanation, TPG deducted an extra $10.30 from my bank account, additional to the regular monthly payments. That suggests the prepaid balance was restored to $20 then. Earlier this week my wife successfully rang a 1300 number, but I still cannot ring the two 13 numbers I mentioned earlier (which include the TPG help line). Another problem I have is that I cannot access my TPG account. If I try the “Forgot your password?” link, the procedure fails. This prevents me checking what the latest account details are. Hi Riezl, According to the attached Critical Information Summary ("correct as at 10 February 2021"), for the TPG NBN SL Bundle, Oz Talk Voice Add-on includes 13/1300 numbers as pay as you go (at 30c per call). Initially after transferring to the NBN I could make calls to 13/1300 numbers, but not now.

Hi BasilDV, I have recently tried 131349 and, in response to our question, 131423. Neither worked. I do not recall other numbers. Records I have show I was able to call 13 numbers till a tleast April this year. Regards, John2125.

For a while now I have been unable to call 13 numbers using my home phone landline. When I try I am greeted with a shrill tone. When I first transferred to NBN I could call 13 numbers successfully. The plan I am on infers it should be possible, but at a pay-as-you-go extra charge. It appears other people have had this problem too. What is the solution?

Hi David64. Does that mean the TPG postoffice is not up to date and therefore less secure with Thuderbird 78 than with earlier versions? Regards. John2125.

Hello PeterW. Following discussion with TPG Postmaster the problem has been resolved. However this was achieved by setting the Connection security to "None", which raises questions about connection security.

I am unable to access my TPG mail box using Thunderbird but I can with my web browser. Last week I cleared my hard drive and installed Windows 10 and Thunderbird 78 email program. Before that I could access my mail box with Thunderbird (and Windows 7). The several attempts to setup and operate my account in Thunderbird have been unsuccessful. When trying to get messages Thunderbird appears to try but downloads nothing. When trying to send a message, it gives the message “Peer using unsupported version of security protocol. The configuration related to mail.tpg.com.au must be corrected.” How can this problem be fixed? Thank you. John.

Thanks, Optimus. I appreciate your contribution. The link you gave is to the user guide I had already downloaded, but my modem indicator lights operate quite differently to the description in the user guide. That's why they're meaningless to me. Kind regards.

Can we have a modem guide that accurately and honestly explains what the respective indicator lights mean when off, on or flashing? If not then they are meaningless. Presently, which lights are on and which are off varies through the day regardless of usage. Kind regards.

In summary, the indicator lights don’t indicate what the TPLink VR1600v modem guide says they indicate: they are therefore meaningless! The modem indicator lights are sometimes on and sometimes off even when the respective function is active. For example, the Power light may be either on or off even when power is connected and the modem is operating with the phone being used or internet being accessed. Or, the Internet light may be either on or off even when the internet is being used. Or, a LAN light may be either on or off when a computer connected to the respective port is turned off. Or, the Phone light may be on when the phone is on the hook or off when the phone is off the hook. The Phone indicator light has sometimes been flashing, a mode not mentioned in the the user guide. While I am posting this question the Power, Internet and WAN lights are off. Please explain. Can we have a modem that means what it indicates? Kind regards.

Why is a phone number pre-set by TPG for Phone 2 port in the TPLink VR1600v modem settings if that port will not work? Kind regards.

I notice the TPLink VR1600v modem settings (pre-set by TPG) show the same phone number for incoming calls for both phone ports. The number for outgoing calls for both ports is “Auto” (whatever that means). Why is a phone number given for Phone 2 port if that port will not work? Related is that the modem user guide, User Guide Dual Band Gigabit VoIP VDSL/ADSL Modem Router Archer VR1600v, in Chapter 5 VOIP describes a multitude of possible settings accessed via an Advanced>Telephony> link. I can find no such link in my modem settings, as accessed via http://tplinkmodem.net or 192.168.1.1. In fact the actual accessible modem settings vary considerably from those shown in the user guide.

Your reply leads to the unanswered last question in my initial inquiry: how many phones can be connected to each of these phone ports (via double adaptors or in-house wired network)? 2. If calls cannot be received on Phone 2 port, what is involved to have a second phone line for both making and receiving calls with a different phone number, as I have had in the past (but not at present)? In that situation there may be simultaneous calls on both lines. Kind regards.

The TPLink VR1600 modem I have just had installed has two phone ports: Phone 1 and Phone 2. The modem user guide says "Connect your telephone to the RJ11 ports on the back panel. Please note that you can only connect to two ports (one to a Phone 1 and the other to a Phone 2) at most". However, the TPG guide says "Connect your telephone handset to the Phone1 port on the back of your modem", with no mention of Phone 2 port. Also the nbn installation technician said to use only one phone port. This raises some questions. What is the difference between Phone 1 and Phone 2 ports? What is the purpose of Phone 2 port? Can Phone 2 port be used instead of Phone 1 port? Can both these phone ports be used simultaneously for phone connection? How many phones can be connected to each of these phone ports (via double adaptors or in-house wired network)?
