Since December 3rd (when I set my fan to ventilate the device constantly), I have not experienced this issue again. I try to be methodical in my testing, so I'll first need to disconnect the fan and then wait until the problem surfaces again with the current configuration. Hi, @Falex  Thank you for documenting your experience. It is very similar to my own, since I also started with the V1 hardware. I never ended up going through with a tech visit, and instead they just sent out the V2 hardware without the visit. In my case, the V2 hardware has the same problems.   The 5GHz network failed again last night. The fan was not running at the time, but the thermometer I've put on the router was 3 degrees cooler than where it normally is when this happens, which has created some doubts in my mind about possible causes. I decided to run the fan constantly now, and we'll see how we go over the next week.   If I continue to have problems with it even with the fan constantly on, I'll have to conclude that there is no way to fix the problems with the Archer and that I just need to replace it with something that isn't terrible.   I've been very patient with this issue for around 6 months, which is far more than TP-Link or TPG deserve, since there is something seriously wrong with both of the devices they've provided. ... Hi @Nsuria . Your read of the situation looks correct to me. I have not yet seen this problem get fixed on the Version 1 hardware. I would think that some sort of firmware update for the Version 1 hardware would be able to fix the problem, but I haven't yet heard of a case where that's happened.   After getting the Version 2 hardware and then a firmware update for that hardware, my problem has mostly gone away. I have had it happen 1 evening since then, but that's an improvement over how it used to be. I'm going to try to test it a bit more over the next couple of days. Thanks, @chicaneau . Bit baffling for me too, but I've never understood their approach to firmware generally.   Extra tidbit you might get a kick out of... I hadn't yet requested this most recent firmware update, but am glad it happened. My support request had escalated, and I got a phone call from TPG. At the end, they said someone would check my router settings and get back to me. Later, they phoned to book a technician visit. I explained why it probably wouldn't help, but went ahead and booked it to keep escalating the issue. Right after that phone call, I checked the router and noticed the firmware had been updated. They hadn't said anything about updating the firmware, so this was a surprise but was what I was hoping for. Sometime in the past day or so, my firmware was updated remotely. Firmware is now 1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 200826 Rel.77218n I think this is the same firmware version that @chicaneau was upgraded to awhile back.   Since the firmware upgrade to 200826 Rel.77218n, no device has been kicked off of the 5GHz network. I will continue to monitor the situation over the next week. Sometimes the issue does not appear until the weekend, which is when the modem/router gets used the most. So we'll see how it does over the next week.   Very surprised to hear your VR doesnt work on 2.4Ghz... very strange. It's normal. The streaming application states that only 5 GHz networks should be used because 2.4GHz will be insufficient. Games are unplayable over 2.4GHz with audio skipping, visual artefacts, and full or partial black screens. Update: Resetting back to factory settings after the firmware update did not fix the problem.   Support is now sending a new modem/router, but it will be the same model I currently have. Another update from me:   Spoke with technical support, and they emphasized that it's important to reset the router back to factory settings after the firmware update. I had not done this, so I noted all my settings and then reset the router back to factory settings by holding down the reset button with a pen long enough for all the lights to go out for a bit (maybe about 15 seconds).   To eliminate the chance that a custom setting might be contributing to the issue, I have not made any changes after the factory reset, apart from login credentials, router password, and wifi network names/passwords.   I haven't been able to test it out for long enough, but hope to do that this weekend. Firmware update was applied recently, and the revised hardware and firmware is now Hardware Version: Archer VR1600v v1 00000000 Firmware Version: 1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190305 Rel.72906n   Unfortunately, the problem has not been solved. The 5ghz device was just kicked off of the wifi within the past 15 minutes and cannot rejoin the network. (Edit at 10:25pm: I have now had to restart the router several times tonight because of this issue with more than one wifi device being affected.)   I note the firmware they installed does not match the one @chicaneau listed in an earlier post: @chicaneau's Firmware Version:1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 20082 My (current) Firmware Version: 1.1.0 0.9.1 v5006.0 Build 190305 Rel.72906n What is the next step here? In my case, the issue is definitely related to local wifi traffic, as the device that most frequently loses the 5ghz connection from the router is a VR headset streaming a game from a PC on the local network. Lots of traffic obviously, and it's like the router eventually just has enough and tells the headset that it doesn't want to talk anymore. :)  Some wifi speakers also have issues after awhile (also just using the local network), but it seems to be less frequent with them. My household has been having this problem for months, and it seems to be getting progressively worse. 5ghz will lose connectivity with high load devices (e.g., VR headset). Once connectivity is lost, it is impossible for those devices to reconnect on the 5ghz network. 2ghz connectivity remains possible, but the slow speed is not suitable for the device. Restarting the disconnected device will not restore 5ghz connectivity, and the router itself needs to be power cycled.   What is the proper process today to resolve this issue?
