I have the exact same problem as Ascidian99
When trying to send an email it fails and I get the error "the mail server responded: mf-505: Sender Policy - Relay Denied".
I use a gmail address with Thunderbird.
I have the issue only with my gmail on Thunderbird. Proton mail works fine with Thunderbird.
Hi @tOmOz ,
Are you using a TPG email when you send an email and get an error message?

Hi,
No. As I said I use a gmail address.
Hi @tOmOz
Since the issue is with your Gmail, please contact the Google support for further assistance.

The issue happens with other email addresses on Thunderbird as well, not only with gmail.
The exact same issue. So I think it's not related to gmail but to TPG and the way the communication is (not) established with TPG SMTP server.
FYI here are my settings:
Server name: mail.tpg.com.au
Port: 587
Connection security: STARTTLS
Auth method: Normal password
Username: xxxxxxx@tpg.com.au
I've always been using these settings without any problem until very recently. Now I have the same issue as Ascidian99 for ALL my emails addresses on Thunderbird (not only gmail).
I can receive emails but I can't send them.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Use the Outgoing mail server of Gmail for your Gmail account.
What's the other email addresses you are using? If it's different from TPG, then you need to use the Outgoing mail server that is set for their domain.

Thanks @BasilDV,
I've set up Thunderbird to use Gmail SMTP server with oAuth2 and now it works like a charm
That's great!
Have a good day!
I have exactly the same issue ever since all the emails were migrated to the messaging company.
I also use thunderbird and have heard nearly every possible excuse from them about these problems.
I have even been told that they dont support Thunderbird.
Also I have severe problems with often having my IInet IP blocked from sending any mail as it gets blocked by Abusix, the messaging company tell me they dont provide IP so it is not their probelm, IIbnet tell me they dont provide email so it is not their problem.
My experience is that the tech support of the messaging company is that they have no technical knowledge, they cant even understand that sending from my computer using thunderbird is from my iinet isp but if i log in using their webmail it sends from their server ip.
I have no idea how to deal with these unqualified people, they dont even know about their own IP and mx records are being changed which disrupts all forwarded mail from any domains.
Paying for a business NBN account to IInet but the messaging company have no idea what that means.
@Fedup1 . Sending from webmail is OK; problem is only with Thunderbird?
What is the SMTP server name?
Are all emails blocked from Thunderbird or only some?
Do you get emails bounced back with an error message?
Can you paste in the email error message? Just X out the sender and receiver addresses.
