I am wondering if random probing from the internet will go absolutely nowhere? I am thinking that it is probably when a device from "inside" initiates a connection that NAT table entries are created to enable return packets to be sent to the "inside" device that initiated the connection?
@drbob . You are correct about NAT table entries. Pings might be stopped at the firewalls because the external address doesn't relate to a real device. (Or the firewall responds to the ping.)
