Unstable high ping and slow download speed

Hi,

There are 2 things i want to address which is unstable ping and download speeds

when there is only one person using the internet it is stable eg playing league of legends, CSGO and other online games will get a stable around 25 ping and occasionally can go up to 70. However when any additional person uses it for watching netflix or playing another game such as COD on ps4 simultaneously it will fluctuate from 100-500 mainly staying around the 350 ping mark and never going below 100. This has happened many times since connecting to NBN.

For download speeds, the 5ghz wifi download speed is good can reach 40mbs during non peak times however the 2.4ghz can only reach a max of 5mb during non peak times. The problem here is that most of the devices in my house can only connect to the 2.4ghz where we are stuck with highly fluctuating ping and low download speeds.

Is there anything we can do to fix this? Thank you

Hi @Luxor109

Actual throughput speeds may be slower and could vary due to many factors including type/source of content being downloaded, hardware and software configuration, the number of users simultaneously using the network and performance of interconnecting infrastructure not operated by TPG. Devices connected by Wi-Fi may experience slower speeds than those connected by Ethernet cable.

In the event that Wireless devices are affected with this speed issue, we created some articles that you may find helpful. This provides a guide on how to improve your Wireless connection at home.
