Using NBN tp-link 1600v router on adsl

My NBN is delayed because of issues in area (problem in street noticed partway into installation) but I have the modem and no NBN. It’s the Tp-link 1600v supplied for NBN. I have attempted to manually configure for our existing adsl (because it’s a better modem than the old one) and it doesn’t connect to internet.
All other modem setup and access via 192.168.1.1 seems ok - just no internet.
Am I missing something?
Tried as a DSL and EWAN in advanced setup using normal TPG credentials

Goto     Basic   /    Internet    page. Did you select ADSL?

I don't know what other options might come up then  ( vpi/vci? ).

Similar things that are in your old device.

Thank you - I thought I'd done it correctly but wasn't paying attention and still had it trying to be an NBN connection, but now with wrong (ADSL) info.

Works now.

And it *is* a better router thank the one supplied a while back for ADSL - more reach and slightly better speed.

Cheers
