Get online support
Hi,
I have the NBN Cable Broadband plan with TPG. Sometimes the NBN connection fails. Is there an alternative internet connection I can switch to, on my laptop computer, until the NBN link is restored?
I notice that the modem I was supplied has 2.4G and 5G connnections, and the modem lights for these remain on when the NBN fails. Does this mean I can switch temporarily to a 5G connection through TPG? If so, how can it be done?
Thanks.
Hello RMS1,
Thank you for your message and for being a part of the TPG Community.
The LED WiFi lights will remain on with or without a NBN connection to indicate your WiFi networks from the router to your devices is available.
Don't get confused with 5G mobile signal and 5G WiFi, two WiFi networks are available from your modem.
2.4 and 5g both connect the same way, the difference being 5g is a stronger signal but at a reduced radius from the router. Ideal for streaming services if you can't connect directly with an Ethernet cable.
I can investigate your NBN connection to determine what is causing the dropouts.

Hello Peter,
Thanks for your reply - yes, I thought the 2.4G and 5G Wifi on the modem had something to do with 5G mobile but couldn't see how. I've just looked up 5G Wifi on the net to find more info. It really should say "5GHz", which is entirely different.
Thanks.
