Home phone has ticking sound over dialtone and fails to connect to any number, despite previously working fine

Hi,

Since a recent NBN 'planned maintenance' in my area, my home phone service no longer calls out any numbers. Since I have had NBN, the phone line has always made a regular ticking/tapping sound over the dial tone, but once it connected on a call, the noise was gone so I didn't worry.

Now when I try to make any calls to any numbers it either does nothing (silence) or it says that I tried to call OCA0101 - regardless of the number I actually dial.

I suspect that my phone line is still physically connected to a wire (that would formerly have terminated in the exchange that is literally next to my house) in the NBN box - as after the NBN equipment was installed in the box in front of my house, my ADSL based home phone line stopped working and then TPG had the phone line reconnected again, so that it would work again. I strongly suspect that once I transferred to NBN, no one ever disconnected it and since I am literally next to the local telephone exchange, the line length was relatively short and hence didn't cause any major problems until now.

Please help me, I can't call TPG due to the aforementioned problem.

I note that there are several discussions of TPG NBN phone leading to the OCA0101 problem:

But I do have the additional problem that I hear a tapping/clicking noise (in addition to the dialtone) when I first try to call a number.

Hi @Archy

We checked the account and can't detect any issues with the phone service.

Have you tried to reboot the modem? If not, please try it first.

Also, if you have a spare handset, try to change the current one that you are using to rule out a possible handset issue.

Let us know how it goes.
