Is an ATA Box Required to Convert NBN Internet to VOIP Phone?

Hi,

We are using high speed wireless NBN modem router from Netgear, rather than the TPG supplied modem router.

The Netgear router does not have a VOIP phone port.

What type of ATA box will I need to achieve a VOIP home phone connection?

Many thanks.

Jim

Hi @allenje

Welcome to TPG Community!

The settings of the TPG NBN VoIP phone are embedded to the TPG supplied modem. It won't work using a third party modem.

Kind regards,

That doesn't seem very fair or reasonable given that people may want to upgrade their wifi systems to be faster for convenience.

Are you stating that TPG will refuse to accept a high speed modem with an ATA box for voip as an option for a household?

Hi @allenje,

Our VoIP system relies on the customized firmware of the TPG supplied modem for the VOIP credentials to authenticate. Unfortunately, third party devices will not work as it is how it was designed.

You can still use your own modem/router as an access point, however, it has to be plugged into the TPG supplied modem. If there are any issues with the TPG supplied equipment you can advise us asap so we can assist.
