Generic Routing Encapsulation is not configured on 5G router

Has anyone had a problem with the new Sagemcom 5G router that does not support GRE for VPN? We never had this problem with the previous NBN router or when using mobile hotspot. We've already turned off the modem's firewall, but we're still getting this error. “The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed, The most common cause for this failure is that at least one internet device (for example, a firewall or a router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider.”

Hi @MondayOne . Are you trying to connect from your home network to a VPN server in the internet, or, are you trying to connect from the internet to a VPN server on your home network?

Hi @david64 , this is from home to a VPN server on the internet.

Usual WFH setup where you have to connect to office network from home.

@MondayOne . My understanding of VPN is that your WFH computer has VPN client software that captures all network requests and sends them to the VPN server at work, which then executes the requests on your behalf. The router is not aware of what is being sent.

A difference with the wireless broadband connection is that you don't have a real public ip address like you do with NBN connection, even though NBN ip address is dynamic. The VPN server might be rejecting your connection if it sees your ip address changing.

If you know the host name or ip address of the VPN server, you can ping it, then    tracert -d    to it.

If you knew the port number of the VPN server, you could do    telnet   to it.

Your work's computer section might be able to assist.

Unless it is to do with Application Layer Gateway which is part of NAT Forwarding.

What model router were you using with NBN?

Ping and tracert looks ok. It can reach the server.

NBN router is Archer VR1600v

Hey,

I am curious if you have tried to use Mobile Data connection to access the VPN server and how did it go?

Regards,
