How to turn on bridge mode on the TP Link 1600v

Hi @Fiery

Please post the current setup of your mesh device on this thread and what settings are required for the mesh to work.

To set your expectations, we can only provide basic settings for the internet to work, as we do not have references on setting up any mesh device.

Regards,

What do I do now?

I am wanting to setup a mesh network

Hi there,

I'm having a similar problem to a few other users. I purchased a new router (TP-link AX11000) and want to set up the TP Link 1600v into bridge mode so I can use the new routers features and extend the range of the Wi-Fi network.

I tried to follow the instructions on the page (https://community.tpg.com.au/t5/Modems-and-Devices/How-to-turn-on-bridge-mode-on-the-TP-Link-1600v/t...), but cannot set up a new VLAN ID 2 as it's already taken by pppoe_ptm_2_0_d.

I tried to re-create the pppoe_ptm_2_0_d connection so I could assign it another VLAN ID but the internet connection failed and it went back to the original connection anyway.

Does TPG have a new preferred VLAN ID for bridge mode? Or any other suggestions

Hi,

Do I just do these setups on the router that acts as the WiFi extender?

Both routers are tp-link Archer VR1600v v.2 with the same firmware version.

After deleting all entries on Advanced-Network-DSL and adding ->VDSL, VLAN ID: = 2, and Internet Connection Type: Bridge, then rebooting, what comes next. What am I suppose to expect?

I think somebody mentioned to delete all entries and add a new one.

On my part, I want to know what happens after I made the changes

Hi @fredoz

Are you using both TPG provided modem/router?

The VR1600 doesn't support the WiFi bridge or extender, but you can use it as an access point to boost or extend your WiFI.

Now the easiest way to set this up is to use VR1600 LAN to VR1600 LAN and use the settings below:

  • Go to Advace > Network > LAN Settings
  • Change the IP address to something under the subnet of your main VR1600
  • Which is 192.168.1.254  and then disable the DHCP

Now this will be performed on the modem/router that you'll use as an access point.

To start fresh, just factory reset the device first. Let us know how it goes.

I have followd the instructions to bridge the Archer VR1600v but get an error message when I put in 2 against VLAN ID in step 7.  The error message is error code 85629. "This VLAN ID already exists.  Please input another one"

Can you advise next step please?

I am attempting to bridge to a Google Nest but don't have a WiFi on the computer so hoping to bridge to the Nest.  I have turned the WiFi off on the VR1600v as advised by Google.

Hey @Bishs,

Try deleting the "pppoe_ptm_2_0_d" from that list and it should work.

Thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.    Yes that worked I believe, thanks - as per attached screenshot.  Sorry but can you help with the next step please?   The context is . . .

I have recently added a Google Nest Wifi router Model H2D, turning off Wifi on the 1600v.  I can access wireless devices - especially Sonos Port - through google home on iPhone but not with the Windows 10 PC.  It doesn't appear to recognise the wifi network (I used the same name as the prior network).

My computer has relied on VR1600 for wifi as it doesn't have its own wifi.

I'm not sure how to proceed from here to enable the PC to access the wifi network set up with the google device

Can you guide me please?

I did find the guidance below but I don't really understand it.  I have a multi port switch attached to the VR1600 and the WAN port on the VR1600 is connected to the NBN internet box.

I tried a hard wire ethernet connection between the Nest and a LAN slot on the switch (and VR1600) but couldn't work out what to do after that.  I also tried to convert from a DHCP setting to a PPPoE setting in the Google Home app but it wouldn’t change.  I hard wired the Google Nest device to the VR1600 and believe I could see an IP address for it (also in Google Home as 192.168.1.104 – but I still can’t see the wireless network on my computer that is on the nest.

"Once in bridge mode, you need to connect the third party modem/router to the WAN port of the bridged TP-Link. Then, you need to configure the third party modem/router to a "Wireless router only" device. You may contact the manufacturer of your third party device for more instructions.

After setting the device as a router, set the connection type on it as "PPPoE" then enter your TPG username and password as it is required. You may now save the settings and the internet should start working."

Just to confirm, you’re not seeing the Wi-Fi network of the Google Nest device only on your computer? Are you able to see it on your other devices?

Feel free to send me a PM. We’ll get our techs on the case if needed.
