Setting up Archer VR16000v with white and black lists

I have an Archer VR16000v modem supplied by TPG.

I have set up an Access Control white list to restrict devices that can connect to wifi. This works.

I have set up Parental Controls for all devices on white list, and tried to set up Content restriction keyword black list (to exclude pornsites (for example) from kids' devices), but this does not work.

Any help appreciated.

Hi @z2019,

You may have a read through this article: https://community.tpg.com.au/t5/Broadband-Internet/Archer-VR1600v-Parental-Control/td-p/33195/page/2

Sing out should you require further assistance.

I've read through the article.

The first post claiming to have fixed the problem, claimed that setting non-24/7 time restrictions on devices subject to parental controls, magically fixed things. It doesn't for me.

A subsequent post claims that it now works with 24/7 time restrictions on devices subject to parental controls. It obviously doesn't work for me as this was my original attempted settings.

An alternative solution (to effectively restrict access to porn sites particularly) would be to use a commercial solution provided by openDNS which claims to restrict sites returned by their DNS server. But there does not seem to be any way of reconfiguring the Primary or secondary DNS server on my Archer VR1600v router either.

I give up! Unless TPG can provide me with a workable solution to restrict access to undesirable sites, I am going to have to change my ISP.

Hi @z2019 . Try this if you want to use openDNS.

Login to router admin. Go to Advanced, Network.

Look in DSL or EWAN for an interface with status of Connected.

Click the Modify icon for this interface. This brings up config menu.

Click Advanced.

At Use the following DNS Addresses, tick Enable.

Enterthe 2 DNS addresses.

Click Save.

This doesn't stop your kids from overriding this on their own devices.

The parental controls on VR1600 may not achieve your aim.
