Wifi isn't working/out of range

There is a problem with my wifi or modem as it has difficultly connecting to my devices, cable works fine for me, but when it comes to wifi, it either doesn't connect or the wifi signal barely reaches my device. For example, the wifi is connected to my IPhone when I'm right next to it, but it disconnects once I take a couple steps away. Please help me fix the problem, thanks.
