Long delays receiving sms

dczemann

My wife and I are on the TPG Sim only plan and have noticed that text messages are significantly delayed to receive. As an example, this morning a text was sent at 8:57am which was received at 10:21am. This happens 90% of the time when either sends a text to each other with similar delays. It has become so bad that we have to call to make sure the other person has received the message or add a time to the text when sending to confirm.
Can someone please assist as this is a serious problem.

Hi @dczemann

There are few factors that may affect your SMS/calls with your mobile service.

Check for service outages

  1. If all of a sudden you noticed your data/SMS isn’t working, an unplanned outage or network maintenance may be happening.
  2. You can check if there are any data outages in your current location by clicking HERE.
  3. You just need to enter your phone’s make and model and your location’s suburb and post code.

Check for coverage availability

  1. Depending on your current location, call and SMS coverage may vary.
  2. You can check for data coverage availability in your current location by clicking HERE and clicking “Coverage” under “IMPORTANT THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW”.

Here are also some basic troubleshooting you can perform:

Power Cycle Handset

Press and hold the handset's power button for 3-5 seconds then a reboot option should pop-out to the android/iphone's screen.

Perform Manual Network Selection

Network Selection. Check in your settings that your phone is set to automatically select a network. If your phone is already set to automatically select a network, try to manually select your mobile Network Provider to Vodafone. You may need to turn the phone off and then back on again for the change to be in effect.

For iPhones:

  • Go to Settings>Cellular / Mobile>Network Selection>Switch off Automatic Option
  • Wait for the list of Mobile Providers to appear, then choose TPG / Vodafone on the list and test the service

For Android Phones:

  • Go to Settings, look for Mobile Network>Network Operators>Choose a network manually or
  • Go to Settings, look for Mobile Network>Carrier>Switch off Automatic Option
  • Wait for the list of Mobile Providers to appear, then choose TPG / Vodafone on the list and test the service

Change Network Mode/Preferred Network (from 4G to 3G or vice versa)

Check that your device's network mode is set to automatic. If you have a 4G device in a 4G coverage area but you are only able to connect to 3G, make sure that 4G is switched on. You may also try switching from 4G to 3G if you’re having issues with 4G.

For iPhones:

    • Go to Settings>Cellular / Mobile>Cellular Data / Mobile Data Options>Voice & Data>
    • Choose between 3G and 4G (LTE) and check which network would give you the best service

        For Android Phones:

    • Go to Settings>Look for Mobile Network>Network Mode

Choose between 4G/3G/2G Automatic, 3G/2G Automatic and 3G only and check which network would give you the best service.

Try a different handset.

  • Try a different mobile handset using TPG SIM.

If all of the above does not work, let us know of your preferred time to be contacted so we can have our Mobile support team to assist you.

Thanks, but none of those suggestions have improved it.
As an example, I sent a text to my wife which said "waiting for connection" which she didn't receive. Then I sent one to my daughter who received it straight away.
Is there some reason why texts sent from one TPG Sim to another TPG Sim get delayed or need something to connect (the screenshot)? My daughter's text didn't need anything unique to connect/send to?

I'm having the same problem?

I sent my wife an SMS on Tuesday morning the 26th October 2021 at about 10.30am and she received it at 8.24pm on the 4th November 2021, yep last night.

Both phones are the same make and model (Samsung A32 4G - purcahsed in May 2021) and both are new to the TPG Mobile Sim Only plan. Normal SMS messages between our phones can take anywhere from 15 minutes up to 12 hours to be sent and received.

Both our mobile numbers have been ported from Telstra, in case that's makes a difference.

Why did it take so long?

I'll bet TPG Staff blame our phones, asks me to PM, so no one can find out what the issue is and how to solve it. Or provides links to documents that make me do all the work.  Like it can't be a problem at their end...
