Changing NBN plans

I'm just wondering how they charge for changing NBN plans.  I'm on NBN FTTN 50, I'd like to change to NBN FTTN 100.  I don't know for certain if this will actually get me a faster connection.  If I change back to NBN FTTN 50, how will I be charged for the higher tier plan?  Will they bill me for the few days I'm on the higher tier plan?  Will they just add it to the next month's bill?

Also, this is the data from my router.  Does the "Max Rate" one mean that I can get 99mbps?  Or is it the "Current Rate" I need to be looking at?  What the max speed I can reasonably expect to get out of my line?

Refering with the results from your modem,

Your FTTN 50 provides you a speed of up to 50Mb down and 20Mb up.

The other vaules are maximum that your connection could reach, but this value  is not always correct.
