Technical question on using TPG VOIP service on FTTP connection.
With FTTP, the phone connects to the UNI-V port on the FTTP NBN box. An option for FTTP is a battery backup. This is to provide power to the FTTP box for up to 5 hours so calls can be made using a corded phone. In a blackout, the wifi router will not have power, yet the phone function still works via the FTTP box.
How does the VOIP function work via FTTP? Keep in mind, that TPG says their VOIP function is encrypted and won't work with third party routers. So what is the ATA in the FTTP box communicating with?
Does this mean that FTTP users can use a third party router and still use TPG VOIP service?
So @Anonymous . Will I be getting any answers to my questions?
Hi @david64
Thanks for your query.

The set up for FTTP is different than other service since the phone is not connected to the router but the level of security is still the same. The NTD is communicating with our servers and is being authenticated through unique identifiers.
Does this mean that FTTP users can use a third party router and still use TPG VOIP service?
Yes, you can use other routers for as long as they are compatible with the technology. You will have to set up the encapsulation type as PPPoE, together with your TPG username and password. Please note that our support team will only be able to provide you with basic information on setup for 3rd party devices.
