Connecting Archer VR1600v modem to ASUS RT-AX54HP router

Hi all.

I have NBN and use the Archer VR1600v modem. I recently purchased the ASUS RT-AX54HP router and followed the instructions provided but I can't get internet access through the router.

I connected the VR1600v to the ASUS from WAN port to WAN port. Setting up the network on the ASUS app was straight forward but diagnostics claims there's an error getting internet access from the Archer modem. I used the WAN type "PPPoE" for setup (which is what my connection is listed as) and input the respective username and password listed when I log into the Archer modem under Network > DSL > my active connection > Username > Password.

I've tried a few tips and tricks posted in the forums for other ASUS products but haven't had any success. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi @vakate,

May we know what kind of NBN service are you using?  (FTTN, FTTB HFC)

We have some existing article that you may find helpful, this will guide you on how to connect a 3rd party router on our supplied modem.

Please see link below.

3rd party router via DHCP

Let us know if your need further assistance.

Thank you for your reply.

The service is FTTN.

If I change the connection mode on the ASUS router to DHCP it gives me an error saying my "ISP's DHCP doesn't function properly". I have attached some screenshots of the settings.

Hi @vakate . Connecting WAN to WAN won't work whatever you do.

If you make use of VOIP phone connected to VR1600, it has to be in wireless router mode and the Asus can only be an access point. You lose many functions of Asus.

If you don't use VOIP phone, you can put the VR1600 into bridge mode and Asus is in wireless router mode.
