Landline and NBN modem LOCKED?

While I've read that TPG routers allow a connection to other providers, what about the landline phone VOIP function?

I have been asked by another provider to check if in your TP-Link Archer modem the built-in VOIP function can be used with the other provider?

Hi @coolmobility

Since we are using the unique firmware for the TPG provided modem/router, the VoIP function might not work with other providers.

You may check if you can flash and install a different firmware for you to be able to use the VoIP function of the device.

So another item TPG are not transparent about, that the supplied modem IS LOCKED from being used for VoIP, if users change to a different provider!

Most providers do not lock their modems like that, making it only useful as a backup NBN modem, without phone, forcing people to buy a new unlocked modem.

The TPG provided modem/router is free of charge unless you purchased it with us @coolmobility.

As advised, you can try to flash the firmware of the provided device and install a new one, but can't guarantee that it will work.

Yes i have a vx220-g2v and have moved to Aussie Broadand.  It works for broadbank but not VOIP.  Will TPG provide a different log on credentials so that it can be enabled for vOIP with another provider or do i have to throw it away (more unnecessary ewaste) and buy another one?

Hey @pjgibson1, we've checked in with our Hardware Team and confirmed that you won't be able to use your modem with VoIP with another provider.

Thanks but honestly that is ludicrous.  Why can't TPG provide a super user password to unlock the VOIP settings? Or provide a firmware update that does the same?

Shame that TPG is contributing to e-waste like this and limiting functionality of the modem/routers it supplies.

Guess I did the correct thing after 16+ years in leaving TPG for a more enlightened ISP.

Thank you.  Worth a try.  Do you have a link to a suitable firmware as tp-link do not show any downloads for this model on their website.
