NBN and TPG FTTB service setup and modem configuration
Important Message: Your modem has been pre-configured; you do not need to follow each step of the setup guide but you should retain this document if you need to configure your equipment manually.
This article provides modem setup advice for NBN and TPG FTTB services to get you up and running in just a few simple steps:
→Physical Connection – for NBN Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
Connect the power cable from your modem's power port to an electrical outlet
Connect a phone cable from the grey DSL port on your modem to your telephone wall socket
Make sure the electrical outlet for your modem is on, and press the modem's ON/OFF button
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online.
If you have a TPG NBN phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that NBN phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem.
→Physical Connection – for NBN Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)
Connect the power cables from your NCD and modem's power ports to electrical outlets.
Connect the included phone cable from the grey phone socketport on your NCD to your telephone wall socket
Connect the included Ethernet cable from the blue WAN port on your modem to the yellow gateway port on your NCD
Make sure the electrical outlets for both devices are on, and press the modem's ON/OFF button
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online
If you have a TPG NBN phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that NBN phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem
→Physical Connection – for NBN Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
Connect the power cable from your modem's power port to an electrical outlet.
Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem's blue WAN port to the UNI-D1 port on your NBN connection box.
Make sure the electrical outlet for your modem is on, and press the modem's ON/OFF button.
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online.
If you have a TPG NBN phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the UNI-V port on your NBN connection box. We’ll email you the UNI-V port number when your NBN service is active.
→Physical Connection – for NBN Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
Connect the power cables from your NBN connection box and modem's power ports to electrical outlets
Connect the included Ethernet cable from the UNI-D1 port on your NBN connection box to your modem's blue WAN port
Make sure the electrical outlets for your NBN connection box and modem are both on and press the modem's ON/OFF button.
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online.
If you have a TPG NBN phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that NBN phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem.
→Physical Connection – for NBN Fixed Wireless
Connect the power cable from your modem's power ports to an electrical outlet.
Connect the included Ethernet cable from the UNI-D1 port on your NBN connection box to your modem's blue WAN port.
Make sure the electrical outlet for your modem is on and press the modem's ON/OFF button.
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online
If you have a TPG NBN phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that NBN phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem.
→Physical Connection – for TPG FTTB (modem only)
Connect the power cable from your modem's power port to an electrical outlet.
Connect a phone cable from the grey DSL port on your modem to your telephone wall socket.
Make sure the electrical outlet for your modem is on, and press the modem's ON/OFF button
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online.
If you have a VoIP phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that VoIP phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem.
→Physical Connection – for TPG FTTB with an Network Termination Device (NTU)
Connect the power cables from your modem and Network Termination Unit (NTU)'s power ports to electrical outlets.
Connect the included phone cable from your modem's grey DSL port to the NTU's LINE port.
Connect the other included phone cable from your NTU's LINE + power port to your telephone wall socket.
Make sure the electrical outlets for both devices are on and press the modem's ON/OFF button.
Check the lights on your modem. If the Internet light is blue, you can start connecting your devices and getting online.
If you have a VoIP phone service you’d like to use, plug a handset into the green phone port. Please note that VoIP phone services from third-party providers are not supported by this modem.
→Configuring Modem (if required)
1. Connect your device to the modem via WiFi or Ethernet cable then open an internet browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
2. Log in with your TP-Link modem password. By default, the password is admin
3. On the home screen, click Internet on the menu.
4. Enter your TPG username and password.
5. Click Save.
→Connecting to Wi-Fi
It’s easiest to connect your devices using your modem’s default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password – once connected, your devices will remember the Wi-Fi password for you.
You’ll find the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password on the barcode sticker located on the base of your modem.
Your modem will automatically connect your devices to the best Wi-Fi network possible (i.e. 5GHz). Older devices may only be able to connect to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
→Customise your Wi-Fi settings)
If you’d prefer to customise your Wi-Fi network settings, you can do so using a device connected to your modem via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
Open your web browser and log in at http://192.168.1.1 with the unique default password found on your modem's barcode sticker.
Select Wireless.
Enter your new Network Name (SSID) and Password as desired.
Select Save to finish, then connect your devices using your new Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
