Can't connect to email server

Can receive emails however cannot send emails.  Has been working fine - but all of a sudden getting Error Ox800CCC0D - Cannot connect to server.  Have checked all the POP settings and everything looks fine.  Have rebooted computer.  Managing emails through Outlook on computer.  Running Office 365, Windows 10.

Hi @thesand . What are your settings for the SMTP connection? (POP is for receiving.)
Is authentication enabled?

Do you get an error message when you try to send an email?

Has this problem coincided with a change to your public ip address?

You can turn on logging function in Outlook. There are Microsoft articles on how to do this. The log file for SMTP should have detailed info on the connection problem.

First off, make sure your internet connection is solid. Sometimes a quick restart of your modem/router can do the trick. Also, double-check your email settings to ensure everything is entered correctly—server addresses, ports, and security settings can be sneaky little things.

If that doesn't do the trick, try accessing your email from a different device or using webmail if available. This can help rule out whether the issue is with your device or the email service itself.

Another handy tip is to check if there are any ongoing outages or maintenance with your email provider. They usually update their status on their website or social media.

Lastly, backing up your important emails is always a good idea—like an office 365 backup, you know? Just in case something goes sideways.

Settings that worked for me on Outlook:

Account Type: POP3

Incoming mail server: mail.tpg.com.au

Outgoing mail server mail.tpg.com.au

User name

(TPG password)

Tick ‘Remember password ‘

More Settings > Advanced

Incoming server (POP3): 110

Tick ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

Outgoing server (SMTP): 587

Use following type > Select SSL
