How can I block incoming calls from telemarketers?

NesNew

Ever since we began our TPG service, we have been receiving unwanted robo-calls from "Telstra" and the "Australian Tax Office" and other fake sources. These are usually tagged as coming from an "anonymous number" although sometimes an actual number is displayed on the phone's screen.

Is there a way that we can block these calls?

Many of the unwanted calls I get are from overseas, usually an Indian call centre, so the Do Not Call Register is no use for blocking such calls. Every week I get two or three scam calls about the NBN cutting off my account. I think these calls come from within Australia. How do we block these?

Hi @stevecharles,

We recently added an article on How to Handle Scam Calls/ Emails.

You may follow the tips and report the scam to the given website.

In other words, TPG is doing nothing to help prevent these criminals from exploiting your users.  And TPG intends to continue doing nothing.

Very very poor.

Hi @kdvmdv666,

TPG phone number is silenced free of charge by default. Our customers have the option their to list  to list your name, TPG phone number and address in the White Pages and Directory Assisted Services or restrict (Silenced) the directory listing.

You may visit this link for more details.

You can also have your home phone listed on https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

TPG also did a very helpful article to avoid any scam which is posted on this thread.

Yes, I know the number is unlisted.  I still get spam calls.

Yes, I know about the donotcall register.  Most of the spam calls come from India or the Philippines, so how is that relevant?

And you're "how to handle spam calls" article gives very useful advice, like not to give the spam caller your financial details.  Great idea!  Would never have though of that!

The point being that I don't want to handle the spam calls.  I don't want to be woken from a sound sleep, or have my meal interrupted, or be dragged away from a TV show in the first place!

If TPG just had a setting where you could list the numbers you want calls from,, and block everything else, it would go a long way towards solving the issue.  But that, apparently, is too much trouble.  I've been with TPG for years, but I think customers should look elsewhere, to a service that takes its customers' privacy seriously!
