Continuous often Internet disconnections

Hello,

Since some time, almost a month for now, the Internet connections keeps dropping off during the day and night, at random times.


I have NBN (a black connector box) and Archer VR1600v.
Devices that are connected via wi-fi and those connected via a cable to Archer lose connection at the same time.
When the connection disconnects, the black NBN box shows all its four lights, including "Online", green, non-flashing.


If I reboot Archer via the web admin interface, the connection restores.

There is no specific pattern in when it disconnects.
There was no change in the physical environment around the Archer. Previously, before 2022, I've never had such interruptions.

 

When I do have a connection and if I log in to Archer's web admin interface, the icon next to the "Internet" icon often keeps rotating, i.e. not a "tick", with "Internet Status = Detecting". If I reboot Archer, the icon starts displaying a "tick".

 

I checked the NBN and TPG service connection outages web sites - no planned outages during those disconnects.

I installed a Chrome plugin called "Internet Connection Monitor". For yesterday, for example, it registered 431 disconnects during the 24hrs. Those disconnects are for a few milliseconds, often every other minute; sometimes, it's for a minute.

 

This became unbearable as I have work during the day and also online Zoom sessions. I keep being disconnected during those, which is frustrating and affects my image in front of others because I drop off of the video calls.
I also had an online exam and it was very stressful as I didn't know when my Internet will drop off.

Hello,

Since some time, almost a month for now, the Internet connections keeps dropping off during the day and night, at random times.


I have NBN (a black connector box) and Archer VR1600v.
Devices that are connected via wi-fi and those connected via a cable to Archer lose connection at the same time.
When the connection disconnects, the black NBN box shows all its four lights, including "Online", green, non-flashing.


If I reboot Archer via the web admin interface, the connection restores.

There is no specific pattern in when it disconnects.
There was no change in the physical environment around the Archer. Previously, before 2022, I've never had such interruptions.

 

When I do have a connection and if I log in to Archer's web admin interface, the icon next to the "Internet" icon often keeps rotating, i.e. not a "tick", with "Internet Status = Detecting". If I reboot Archer, the icon starts displaying a "tick".

 

I checked the NBN and TPG service connection outages web sites - no planned outages during those disconnects.

I installed a Chrome plugin called "Internet Connection Monitor". For yesterday, for example, it registered 431 disconnects during the 24hrs. Those disconnects are for a few milliseconds, often every other minute; sometimes, it's for a minute.

 

This became unbearable as I have work during the day and also online Zoom sessions. I keep being disconnected during those, which is frustrating and affects my image in front of others because I drop off of the video calls.
I also had an online exam and it was very stressful as I didn't know when my Internet will drop off.

I have had what sounds like the same issue. It has occurred since there was maintenance on the line on Thursday 24th (timing may be coincidence, but seems significant that we’ve had no issues for 18 months prior to that date and now complete instability for 3 days).

Black box has all four lights green, TPG engineering tell me they can see when I power cycle the NBN box at their end but not any errors associated with the other issues which are:
* no connectivity at times
* at others, <0.5Mbps down, 5-22Mbps up
* power cycling the Archer white box tends to sort it for a couple of minutes
* Internet light on archer occasionally turns off, network connection status inspection in archer web interface sometimes fails, sometimes is ok
* have replaced all network cables <just in case>
* for testing, am connecting directly to archer using network cable with all wifi turned off to eliminate anything in my local network causing it.

We are currently in isolation with two young kids, and trying to do our jobs which are mostly on zoom.

If the NBN box is OK, and my equipment is eliminated from equitation… it seems like it might be the Archer… but quite why the problem has spontaneously started in the last few days…

I've spoken to TPG again today after a 30 minute wait and am waiting on a call back from an engineer. This time I'm told that they can see the fluctuations in connection from their end. If there is a resolution which is useful to others, I'll post it here. I've run out of things to tinker with myself!

No it has not yet - I’ll PM you. I didn’t hear back within 24 hours, so went on hold for half an hour again; NBN had scheduled and cancelled an engineer visit without mentioning me, believing that the issue could be resolved remotely. The ball is now in TPG’s court to liaise with NBN and get back to me with updates. It’s been 9 hours since I last called with no update!

We checked and reviewed the case. We understand that our Engineers have raised a fault with NBN Co. and currently waiting if an NBN technician will be sent out to check your service.

Thanks for checking, Basil. I woke up this morning to the Internet seemingly working… but no update from TPG nor NBN. Before I celebrate (and get down to a proper day of work for the first time in 6 days) it’d be great to hear from TPG what has been discovered/ fixed… and that this isn’t a short-lived fluke that we can’t rely on. Look forward to hearing an update from our assigned engineer!

About 20 minutes ago the connection dropped again, now once again unusable after a morning of it working fine. I managed 6 zoom meetings before it dropped. I've had no updates from TPG nor NBN. I am going to cancel another bank of meetings and call again now - my 5th or 6th call to-date.

We checked the incident ticket under NBN Co and it is still not tagged as resolved even though you are able to use the service.

It is possible that they are still investigating the issue, which is why it was not that stable as of the moment.
