Thanks for that @Dropbear087 : I tried it out and the reply I got was "Thanks for using our 3G device checker. Unfortunately, we're unable to confirm if your current device is compatible with our 4G/5G network, including its ability to make emergency 000 calls. Please contact your device manufacturer for more information. NOTE: Unless your call is for a legitimate emergency, DO NOT call Triple Zero (000) to test your device.
Since I can't test calling 000 for the obvious reasons, I wanted to wait for the 28th and see what happens. But since TPG is doing a block automatically and my device seems to meet their criteria's on Volte and 4G, hence why I want some kind of confirmation from them as to what is going to happen and what method they are planning on using to decide "unsupported" devices.
It's not network specific because it's a service proved by AMTA:
Check My Device - AMTA | The Voice of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Industry
If your device shows VoLTE next to the signal bars then it's obviously VoLTE capable, however you may need to update the firmware perhaps and also enable WiFi calling in settings. Hopefully you'll get some clarification from a mod here as to what will happen before 28th Oct. Good luck.
EDIT: You can also enter the device's IMEI number on the AMTA website above. Dial *#06# on your phone to bring up the number then enter it. The attached screenshot is for my Realme 7 5G RMX2111 which isn't shown as a supported device on TPG's website .... yet there we are, the AMTA says it is ok for use after 28th October. Like you say, we'll see i guess. (fingers crossed).

Thanks. After the autotest, I am now satisfied that My telstra mobiles will work OK. Re WiFi, our mobiles are completely independent of our home WiFi network. For instance, either of us may need to reach 000 when we are out of the home -- say on the road and nowhere in range of a WiFi network. So so I see no reason for the WiFi calling to be involved.
EDIT: Also, there may not be a home WiFi network, it may be swicthed off or it may be faulty. All in all, it is inconceivable that a smartphone should rely on any WiFi network for phone calls. Internet functions like email are of course a different matter.
No, it's not to do with 000 calling in particular. I seem to recall that one of TPG's requirements for enabling VoLTE is to also enable WIFI calling on the phone but perhaps it was the other way around and VoLTE must be available for WiFi calls to work. Maybe Telstra doesn't such a requirement anyway.
Thanks @Dropbear087 I got the same response from the AMTA website as well where it can't tell. So for now since there's no longer any TPG mod replies, let the "wait and see" countdown begin.....
The plot thickens .... The same phone (Realme 7 5G RMX2111) with an Optus SIM inserted gets a similar positive response as the Vodafone SIM when texting 3 to 3498..... however using a Boost (Telstra) SIM it gets the "Unable to confirm" message, although entering the IMEI on AMTA's website continues to get the "OK" response as expected and quite regardless of SIM presence.
So perhaps there's also undisclosed SIM/Carrier requirements? If so, that may mean that some ppl will only need to update an older SIM or change the carrier to continue using a phone which presently gets mixed responses. Seems like many things these days, it's all a hot mess and there's no clarity. Do the three individual carriers really know what will happen with specific phones I wonder.
Roll on 28th October. I'll still have access to all 3 carriers' active SIMs to check the results of them in the same phone and additionally test two 4G VoLTE phones, Realme 6 and Oppo A72, which presently get the same results as the 5G Realme 7.
I find it milding amusing that there's been no moderator reponse to any of these recent posts as @gcck88 also points out. Silence is NOT always golden TPG, so in the immortal words of a spinached-up Popeye: "C'mon ... I dares ya!"
Hi @kate_ I really do hope your or someone in the TPG space can reply to my post on 15-10-2024 10:49 PM. Clearly my screenshots shows that I'm VoLTE capable and have 4G which meets the instructions on the site you provided. Since you're not able to provide us how compatible devices are determined as per your post 15-10-2024 04:42 PM, what now? Oh yea and tag, you're it
@Dropbear087 Saw your post and man you just lit my Fri-yay up. LOL to the funnies mate! So looking at various forums all over, it seems what you've gone through and tested is pretty much what got everyone confused as well. Some say the telco's are using some whitelisting method / list / process and they are all different with other providers. There's no fixed standard to what their doing except causing everyone to dive into forums and try every single code / link / solutions / tips out there in the wazoo which still has no guarantee come 28th of Oct!!
Yeah mate, i reckon probably no-one really knows what the heck is going on. I'm not singling out TPG/Vodafone to bash up because it seems that all 3 carriers are handling 'hot potato' questions along the lines of (i) Kate's we aren't able to share how device compatibility is determined ; or (ii) a "polite" but passive-agressive version of the equally condesending it's just too complicated and you wouldn't understand.
To the first, my response is - Why the heck not and what's the big secret? All you have to do is state what your criteria is, you're not handing over the nuclear launch keys for heaven's sake!
To the second - Oh yeah? Try us because i'd rather be confused than disrespected.
Hey @gcck88, could we confirm what make and model of phone you're using at the moment?
Hi @kate_ I'm using Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. So far, no issues with calls, SMS or mobile internet except for the warning message on any outgoing calls I make. Currently VoLTE and 4G is displayed. Checked my calls and it stays on 4G throughout the entire call without dropping. Thanks
