Forgotten Your Wi-Fi Password?   With so many different passwords you have to remember these days, it is not uncommon for anyone to forget their Wi-Fi password.   A common mistake people make is trying to use their TPG account password as their Wi-Fi password. Your Wi-Fi is not your TPG account password and TPG does not keep record of your Wi-Fi password.   There is no need to worry as it’s a simple task to be reminded what your Wi-Fi password is. As long as you have access to the router or one device that is connected to the network, you will be able to obtain your password.   This article will show you ways to find your Wi-Fi password using different Operating Systems or devices.                 Using the Modem Router’s Default Password   If you have a router from your internet provider, chances are it has the default network name and password printed right on the router’s label (look for SSID WPA, WPA2, or Wireless Key). This only works if you haven’t changed the default login information.     Using the Modem Router’s Interface   If you’ve changed the Wi-Fi login information, you can use the modem’s interface to acquire your Wi-Fi password.   The following guide is for TP-Link V1600v modem router. For other routers, check our related article at https://community.tpg.com.au/t5/Modems-and-Devices/Retrieving-Wi-Fi-Password-on-TPG-Modems/m-p/6540 or please see your router’s manual.   You can follow these steps if you have the modem connected to your Wi-Fi network.       If your TPG router is the supplied TP link router. Open your browser and in the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter. Enter admin for both the username and password and click Login                   On the menu on the left side of the page, click Wireless. You can view or change the passwors  under the password field. ClickSave           If your TPG router is the supplied Huawei router.   Open your browser and in the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter. Enter admin for both the username and password and click Login                     Click on Setup up WLAN. Chage the password under the password field and click Save.         Using Windows   You can follow these steps if you already have a Windows PC or laptop connected to your Wi-Fi network.   Open the Start menu. Type "View network connections" in the search bar and hit enter  Find the connection icon labelled "Wi-Fi". Right-click this icon, then choose the "Status" option from the menu    Pop-up window should appear. click on the “Wireless Properties” button   Another pop-up window should appear, click on “Security” tab in the window, then tick the box next to “Show Characters”. Your Wi-Fi password will be visible on the “Network security key” field.     Using Windows Command Prompt (Windows 10)   You can follow these steps if you already have a Windows PC or laptop connected to your Wi-Fi network.   To launch the command prompt: Open the Start Menu and go to All apps -> Windows System. There you will find the Command Prompt shortcut.   On command prompt, type in the command: netsh wlan show profile name=SSID key=clear and followed by pressing Enter.   On the last line of the result, the item shows Key Content and this is the wifi password. Troubleshooting TPG Home Phone/Voice Service – No Dial Tone   A No Dial Tone issue occurs when there is silence instead of the normal tone/beeping when you pick up your phone handset to make a call. There are a few easy troubleshooting steps you can do before needing to call TPG Support. These troubleshooting steps can resolve most common issues and save you time as a result.   1. Before you get started, check our Service Status for any outages in your area.   2. If you have NBN or TPG FTTB, check if your internet service is working. If the internet service is down, this will affect your home phone service too as the phone (voice) relies on the internet service. Please call TPG straight away if your internet and phone services are both not working.    3. Check your equipment is connected correctly. Sometimes connections between your equipment can become loose.   Keep in mind that your handset is plugged in differently depending on the type of internet service you have. (For example, for most NBN connections, the phone handset is plugged into the modem!). Test another phone handset and phone cable (If available). Phone line problems can be caused by several things, but a common cause is a faulty hardware. If a different handset gives you a dial tone but the original handset doesn’t, it means the original handset may be faulty.   4. From here, continue with the steps below, depending on the type of internet service you have:   NBN Bundle   If there is an NBN connection box in your premise, restart the connection box by unplugging the power cable attached to the connection box, then plugging it back in. If there is no NBN connection box in your premise, then proceed with restarting your modem. We recommend allowing 5 minutes after restarting modem before retesting for dial tone.   ADSL2+ Home Bundle   Perform an "isolation test" - unplug all devices from every phone socket in your premises except for one phone handset (ensure any DSL filter or splitter is also disconnected). Check for dial tone. This process is to rule out interference caused by other devices that were plugged in to the phone sockets around your home. Test other phone sockets - If your phone works when it's plugged into one wall socket but not another, you may have internal wiring issues. If you suspect this is the case, please contact an ACMA-licensed electrician. This means that they are properly licensed to work on communications cables.   TPG FTTB Bundle   Check internet service and ensure that it’s working. If internet service is not working, then you need to resolve the issue first as the voice service relies on the internet service. This article provides you with our recommended steps when you experience slow Internet.   1. Visit our Network Status page to see any known issues in your area that may be affecting your service speed.   2. Turn off your modem and leave it off for at least 10 seconds.   3. Turn your modem back on and wait for the modem lights to settle.   4. Run a speed test.   5. If you're testing your speed on a device connected to your modem via WiFi, stand next to your modem and run a speed test to rule out any WiFi signal issues.   6. Switch to 5GHz WiFi (the WiFi network with "5G" at the end) for better WiFi speed and to reduce interference from microwaves, baby monitors and other devices which use 2.4GHz WiFi. If your modem has 5GHz WiFi, you’ll find the default 5GHz WiFi name and password on its barcode sticker:     7. If your speed has improved, or slow speeds occur on WiFi devices but not devices connected via Ethernet cable, then see our guide on improving WiFi signals.   8. Unplug all other devices connected to your modem's Ethernet ports (except the device you are testing, if applicable).   9. Turn off or disconnect all other devices connected to your modem's WiFi (except the device you are testing, if applicable).   10. On the device you are testing, close all programs that are using your broadband connection, then run a speed test.   11. If your speed has improved on a single device, you may need to upgrade your NBN™ plan to provide the bandwidth necessary to support more programs and/or devices. You can change your plan in My Account or call us on 13 14 23 to discuss.   12. Ensure your modem is connected correctly, with cables in good condition and plugged in securely. Note: Older Cat5 Ethernet cables are not recommended for NBN™ services - Cat5e or Cat6 is ideal.   13. Perform a scan on your antivirus/anti-malware software. If any infections are detected, make sure they are quarantined and removed. Please contact your software’s Customer Support if you need assistance.   14. Firewalls may affect broadband performance. Temporarily disable any firewalls and run a speed test.   15. Hi Guys, Just an update on the KRACK WPA security flaw that has been in the news this week.   We have worked with our suppliers to confirm that the below modems are not affected by the KRACK vulnerability: Huawei HG532d Huawei HG658 Huawei HG659 TP-Link Archer C1200   The TP-Link Archer VR1600v may be affected if you manually configure and use the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) function. The WDS function is disabled by default. We are working with our supplier on a solution. TPG Home Phone (Voice) Features   TPG Home Phone or Voice service comes with various call features included for your convenience.   If you already have a Home Phone or Voice service with TPG, you can manage your phone features using the Home Phone Service Control Panel within Your Account.   This article explains the function of each of the phone feature's.   Call Barring Call Barring allows you to restrict certain call types that can be dialled from your TPG phone service. This function can be used as a parental control to restrict young children from making certain outbound calls. This service is free service. You can choose to bar the following outgoing call types: Calls long distance calls (STD) Calls to mobile phones International calls     Number Display/Number Block Number Display/Number Block allows you to enable or disable your telephone number displayed or blocked when calling other parties. This service is free service.     Directory Listing Directory listing allows you the option to list your name, TPG phone number and address in the White Pages and Directory Assisted Services or restrict (Silenced) the directory listing. Your TPG phone number is silenced free of charge by default. Please note, once details are modified for directory listing please allow approximately 5 working days for the changes to reflect on digital White Pages and Sensis.        Call Forwarding/Diverting Call Forwarding/Diverting allows you to transfer calls from your home phone to a number you choose on various conditions. Standard call charges apply for forwarded calls.   Below are the different conditions where you can enable call forwarding/diverting; Divert all incoming calls – all incoming calls will be diverted immediately to a specified number. Divert if no reply – Incoming calls will be diverted to specified number when there is no reply after a specified time. Divert if busy - If someone calls your phone number while it is engaged, this feature will forward the call to a specified number.       Caller ID Caller ID allows you to see the phone number of the person calling you on your TPG phone service. This feature is a free service.   Call Waiting This feature notifies you of an incoming call on your TPG phone service while you are already on a call. This article will give you the basic info on Wi-Fi channels, how they work, why change the channel and how to do it on TPG supplied modems.   Wi-Fi Channels: Every Wi-Fi network transmits and receives data on a certain frequency, or channel.  As Wi-Fi data is digital, many different devices can communicate successfully on the same channel.  By default the channels used are typically either channel 6 or channel 11. As shown in the simplified diagram below, three routers are all using channel 6.  The data isn't interfering.       To help to improve this situation, it would seem logical to move one of the routers to another channel.  At first glance channel 7 seems like a good option; there's nothing else using it, so why not? What's actually happening is this:           So what about other channels?  Keeping in mind that we need two spare channels either side, channel 11 seems like the next best channel to go for.  Using it looks like this:       Each signal is now being transmitted correctly, and the congestion on channel 6 is a little better.  Channel 11 is completely free, so the data is communicated efficiently.  Channel 1 would also be a good channel to try and would behave in the same way as channel 11.     Finding the best WiFi channel to use   Windows Open the Command Prompt program. You’ll find this by typing “cmd” into your computer’s search bar. It can also be found in the Accessories folder in the All Programs list in the Start Menu.   A black box with a flashing cursor will appear; this is the Command Prompt. Type “netsh wlan show all” and then hit the Enter key on your keyboard.     A list of information for each WiFi network (SSID) detected by your computer's WiFi adapter will show up. Scroll through this list and take note of the channel being used by each network.     The best channel for your WiFi is the one not being used by most other WiFi networks around you (e.g. the neighbours). For example, if most other WiFi networks are using channel 11, try using channel 1 or 6 in your modem's WiFi settings. Channels 1, 6 and 11 are the most ideal channels to use in Australia on 2.5ghz If you’re using the 5GHz band, and your walls aren’t paper-thin, should mean there’s little interference in your apartment so real need to change the channel.   How do we do this on the TPG Supplied Modems? TP Link: Open browser and in address bar type 192.168.1.1 Enter admin for username and password. Tap on advance, then Then Wireless in the left Hand side menu. Click on Wireless Settings and channel, you can now choose the best channel.         Huawei HG 659: Open browser and in address bar type 192.168.1.1 Enter admin for username and password. This article covers the troubleshooting steps to do if you can't connect your computer, smartphone, tablet or other Wi-Fi enabled devices to your modem's Wi-Fi (wireless) network.   To connect to a Wi-Fi network, your devices must have a wireless network adapter installed. Most modern laptops, tablets and smartphones will have a built-in adapter.   If you can’t connect your devices to your Wi-Fi network, there could be a few possible reasons causing this:   Software or firmware problem   Troubleshooting steps: Turn off your router for about a minute and then turn it back on Restart your computer or device   If issue persists hard reset the router. This is done by putting a pen or pin in the reset hole in the back of the modem for 5 seconds. This will totally reset the router. Wifi settings will need to be put back in to the router.                                                   These steps sound simple, but your router, PC or device may have a software or firmware problem that a simple restart would fix.     Out of Wi-Fi range   Troubleshooting steps: If your router has antennas, make sure that they are securely attached and are positioned upright. Check that your router isn't buried or blocked behind large objects that might cause the signal to degrade faster than it normally would. For best results, place your router out in the open so the signal can travel freely. If you’re still not getting the Wi-Fi range you'd like, consider moving your router to a more central location within your desired coverage area.      Wi-Fi disabled or turned off on your computer or device   Troubleshooting steps: Some laptops and devices have a physical switch or button to turn Wi-Fi on or off. Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled on your device If you’re connecting your smartphones or tablets, you can usually enable Wi-Fi in your device settings, usually called “Wi-Fi”, “Connections” or similar.     Wi-Fi broadcasting disabled in your router   Troubleshooting steps: Some routers and modems have a button or switch to quickly turn Wi-Fi on or off. Wi-Fi may have been switched off by accident. Look for the WLAN light on the modem make sure it is either has a solid or blinking light. If it doesnt press the WLAN button as per the below pic.         If you’re connecting your smartphones or tablets, you can usually enable Wi-Fi in your device settings,usually called “Wi-Fi”, “Connections” or similar.     Unable to connect due to incorrect Wi-Fi password   Troubleshooting steps: For most TPG supplied routers, the Wi-Fi network name and password are printed at the back or the bottom of the router. Otherwise, you can check TPG Supportto find out how to access the Wi-Fi settings of your TPG router. If you’re using your own router, please visit the manufacturer’s website for support information.     Wi-Fi signal interference   Troubleshooting steps: Most recent TPG supplied routers are dual band capable. Try connecting to your Wi-Fi network name that ends with ‘5G’. The ‘5G’ Wi-Fi network operates on 5 GHz signal that is likely to have less interference issue. Try to change to a different Wi-Fi channel on your router settings as other channels may have less interference. Please consult your modem’s user manual or check the manufacturer’s website for more information.   No Internet connection   Troubleshooting steps: The reason you’re unable to get online may not be related to your Wi-Fi network. There could be other issues affecting your Internet connection. Try to connect your computer directly to your router or modem via an Ethernet cable. If there is still no Internet connectivity, then there may be an issue with your Internet connection.
